Mahal na Araw

Semana Santa, also known as "Holy Week," is a significant religious observance for Christians around the world. In the Philippines, we call it "Mahal na Araw." The Holy Week lasts for six days, starting on Palm Sunday and ending on Holy Saturday followed by Easter Sunday . In 2023, it was celebrated from April 2 to April 8.

Filipinos attend Mass regularly during Holy Week, particularly on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. On Good Friday, Filipino Catholics and some other Christian denominations abstain from eating meat.

Overall, Holy Week is a time for reflection, penance, and spiritual renewal for Christians, as they commemorate the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
